LORTOGRAF KREOL MORISIEN

For those who might not be aware, the Ministry of Education and Human Resources is working towards the introduction of Mauritian creole in primary schools. The first step in this process has been the setting up of LAKADEMI KREOL MORISIEN which has come up with a specific ORTOGRAF KREOL MORISIEN which enables the standardization of the writing of the Kreol Morisien. LORTOFRAF KREOL MORISIEN has been prepared by Dr Arnaud Carpooran, Associate Professor, University of Mauritius under the aegis of the LAKADEMI KREOL MORISIEN.

LORTOGRAF KREOL MORISIEN breaks down into 6 main parts namely the Technical Committee: LORTOGRAF KREOL MORISIEN, a historical recap of the developments in the writing system to date, recap on Grafi larmoni, thoughts of the Technical Committee on the preposition as per the Grafi larmoni, orthographic rules regarding the pronunciation of Grafi for Kreol Morisien and rules regarding other orthographic conventions for the Grafi for Kreol Morisien.

This is what we call a milestone towards the introduction of Mauritian Creole in our schools.

For Mauritians, it is something new and will require some time of adaptation as for instance the resemblance with French in the writing is quite minimal. Have a look at the document which is found on the website of the Ministry of Education and HR.
