Potential topics for HSC General Paper (GP) examinations 2011 (Mauritius)

Higher School Certificate is a decisive phase in the life of Mauritians as succeeding at this level opens up the doors of tertiary education. To pass Higher School Certificate, students need to pass in General Paper which is a prerequisite at this level.

Trying to predict potential questions at HSC level is like the Loto, we are never sure whether the topics will indeed be examined.

Nevertheless based on recent trends and the international context, we have tried to gather some of the topics with the higher potential which we believe are likely to be examined even though there is no guarantee.

Below is a list of topics which could be prepared by the students:

1.       Globalisation how it happens, who wins or loses, impacts, advantages and disadvantages

2.       Leisure, Travel and tourism, importance, impact, latest trends (online booking, cruise tourism, low cost airlines), advantages and disadvantages

3.       Global economic crisis, source, impact and how to mitigate it. Is the world a Global village??

4.       Sports  and related issues

5.       Sustainable development and preservation of environment (Global warming, environmental damage, climate change etc)

6.       Good governance, ethics and rule of law. For instance Democracy is an elusive concept. Discuss.

7.       Economic systems: The pros and cons of the market economy

8.       New telecommunication systems, Internet, social networks and related issues

9.       Energy issues – nuclear, oil, renewable

10.   Science versus Religion

It is clear that the above list  is only indicative and is by no means prescriptive.
