Maurice Ile Durable (MID) Vision and other Ministerial Visions for Mauritius (under review)

The future of a nation largely depends on the Vision that the Government has for it. As Mauritius embarks on the Maurice Ile Durable project, it is very likely that the MID Vision will be prominent in the future. Nevertheless, there exist several other Visions for different sectors of the country which cannot be overlooked. We have tried to gather some of them for your information.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade

A prosperous and sustainable Mauritius fully integrated into a peaceful, globalised and equitable world. (Source Strategic plan)

Ministry of Education and Human Resources

providing a quality education for all and developing a Human Resource base to transform Mauritius into an intelligent nation state in the vanguard of global progress and innovation through the development of a culture of achievement and excellence.

Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities

During his visit in 2006, the Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam clearly stated that Mauritius should aim to be an energy independent nation given its tropical location.

The vision of the Government of Mauritius is in-keeping with the above statement of self sufficiency in energy supply in the long term, where individual houses would have the possibility and capacity to fully tap renewable resources such as wind, solar, biogas in decentralized system, which would allow energy supply to be affordable to all citizens. Ministry of Housing and Lands

The vision of the Ministry of Housing & Lands is to have a planned development of the territory of Mauritius where it will be pleasant to live and work, where business can thrive and prosper and where the natural beauty of the country will be preserved for the enjoyment of generations to come.

Ministry of Agro Industry and Food Security

The overarching national challenge thus is to realize a vision of a Mauritian Agri-Food system which, by 2015 and beyond, would have been restructured to become:

·       diverse and multifunctional; yet, given the indispensable role of food and the basic need for food supply stability, playing an enhanced role than hitherto in securing domestic food supply and improving nutrition and health;

·       modern and competitive; sustainable economically, socially and environmentally;

·       an integrated and enhanced part of the rural/whole socio-economy; and

·       flexible and responsive to changes in consumer demand.

Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development
