Tertiary education in Mauritius (Draft)

While for long tertiary education seemed to be limited to the University of Mauritius, we are seeing that today with globalization and the opening up of access to the education market, many new tertiary education providers both local and from abroad are setting up.

With Mauritius aiming to become a new knowledge hub, the Government is granting permission to many new institutions to set foot on the island, thereby diversifying the potential avenues for post secondary education for Mauritians.  Amity university is one of the recent ones to set up in the cyber city of Ebene. There are many other institutions such as the Charles Telfair Institute which is providing courses on behalf of Curtin university in Australia. The Mauritian branch of Middlesex university is also one of the clear examples of this diversification of educational options available in Mauritius.

The University of Technology, Mauritius (UTM),  is another recognized institution on the island which is growing and providing an increasing number of courses to Mauritians. One should not forget that there are also ACCA examinations which are conducted in Mauritius and many private firms provide courses to would be accountants.
