Adventure tourism in Mauritius - Discover the Parakeet trail

The Tourism Insights website defines adventure tourism as 'Holiday and day visits that involve participation in active or adventurous outdoor activities, either as a primary or secondary purpose of visit.' 

Trekking is one form of adventure tourism and involves going down at times very rugged terrain. Trekking can be considered to be both hard and soft forms of adventure tourism in that dependin on the type of trek in can provide extreme or mild sensations.

Regarding the Parakeet trail, depending on weather conditions and the state of the terrain, it can either be a simple though physical trek or a complicated one if it is muddy. This 7.5 km trek can prove to be daunting for those not physically fit.

The trail provides a great experience be it physical or in terms of thrills and provides a nice contact with nature.

Some important advice: Shoes should be appropriate for trekking and participants should be physically able to walk down the 7.5 km. Participants should not throw their litter on the way and smoking should be avoided.
